CENTER FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY

ARCHIVE

A visual immersion into the promotional world of television and radio from the 1950s to the 1970s. Through a selection of print advertisements - some illustrated, some photographic - the exhibition examines how these media sold themselves, playing on bold graphic codes, visual metaphors and carefully composed stagings. Here, the image becomes a tool of seduction: whether it's the dynamic illustration of an aerial hoisted into the English industrial sky, or the smiling photograph of a children's entertainer, each piece bears witness to a close dialogue between graphic design and advertising photography. The typographic treatment, framing choices, stylization of bodies and visual humor reveal an era when the collective imagination around these modes of communication was constructed through printed objects. These documents, now part of our heritage, are milestones in a rapidly expanding visual culture.
